HTML5 runs faster on iOS than on Android says study

A study run by Spaceport.io, a social games technology firm, found that there was a reason why the late Steve Jobs wanted his devices to use HTML5 over Adobe Flash. The study showed that HTML5 runs faster on iOS than it does on Android and in fact, the device that runs it the fastest and most efficiently is the Apple iPad 2. The soon to be surpassed tablet from the Cupertino based tech titan was able to process 326 moving objects compared to 250 for the Apple iPhone 4S. After running the study, Spaceport.io said that the mobile Safari browser on bothApple's iPhone and iPad,  "perform far better than Android devices at registering image movement on-screen."

Android phones performed miserably in the study as only the Samsung GALAXY Nexus, running Android 4.0, was able to keep more than one moving object on the screen while scoring 147 moving objects. The Motorola DROID 2 could barely handle 1 moving object at 30fps. To show the advantages that iOS has with HTML5, the Apple iPhone 3GS scored 53 moving objects at 30fps, beating all but one Android phone.

Android tablets also did not score well in the study and could not compete with the Apple iPad. The Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 produced a score of 65, and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer managed a score of 48. The low priced Amazon Kindle Fire had a mark of 25. The BlackBerry PlayBook bested all Android tablets with a tally of 85.

Even though iOS outscored Android, Spaceport.io said that both platforms still need to improve and both have a long way to go before they can run HTML5 smoothly enough for Web apps.
